Lessons 8 and 9 are designed to be tailored to the needs, and culture of your classroom. Given the constraints of online learning, a traditional capstone project may have to be adapted beyond the directions outlined below. In some cases, you may not be able to assign one. Please consider the needs and limitations of your class community as you assess any adaptations you need to make. Nest staff is also available to provide support.
The capstone lessons build on the content covered in Lesson 7 by providing students with an opportunity to take action to stop child sexual exploitation and trafficking. Students will watch a short film showcasing the actions an artist took to use her skills and talents to raise awareness about sexual exploitation and trafficking. After watching the film, they will be introduced to the Capstone Project assignment. Lesson 9 does not have a separate lesson document because class time is dedicated to students presenting their Capstone Projects.
Depending on your specific class time structure, you can allocate time at the end of Lesson 8 and/or at the beginning of Lesson 9 for students to work on their projects while class is in session. The intention of the Capstone Project is to combine all that the students have learned and to move forward into collective action.
1. Students will have time and space to creatively consolidate, and express, the information covered in the unit.
2. Students will leverage classroom culture of collaboration and sharing through group work.
3. Students will have closure for the unit, by continuing to engage with solutions to societal problems, such as the ones documented on the Solutions Mural.
4. Students will have the opportunity to share their Capstone Project with their peers, and if possible, the school and wider community.
