In Lesson 3, students learned about Consent and healthy relationships, applying their social and political vocabulary to consider the ways in which Power can manifest in relationship dynamics. Lesson 4 provides a review and builds on this discussion by asking: what are unhealthy relationships and what does it mean when consent isn’t given?
Students will learn new terms, including Grooming, which is a process that perpetrators often use to gain trust with the intention of committing a sexual offense. Students will also create safety plans by identifying trustworthy adults they can talk to if they believe themselves or someone else to be in a risky or unsafe situation.
1. Students will continue to discuss characteristics of healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, and Consent by building knowledge about different kinds of abuse.
2. Students will understand how unmet needs can make them Vulnerable. In doing so, they will practice identifying their needs and also finding safe, effective ways to fulfill those needs.
3. Students will practice applying their developing vocabulary to discuss the ways in which Power and Privilege can manifest in relationship dynamics.
4. Students will create a safety plan by identifying trustworthy adults they can talk to if they believe themselves or someone else to be in a risky or unsafe situation.
