PLAYGROUND: The Child Sex Trade in America was one of the first feature-length documentary films to comprehensively examine the rising and insidious trends of child sex trafficking in America and has reached audiences around the world. The film’s social action campaign yielded Nest, an organization dedicated to ending all forms of child sexual exploitation and trafficking, which continues to use PLAYGROUND to sound alarms bells about child sexual exploitation and trafficking in North America.

Tackling a topic you can't film, victims you don't want to identify and a subject from which most auds naturally recoil in horror, helmer Libby Spears works certain wonders with "Playground," a state-of-the-union address on the sexual exploitation of American children.

Variety

PLAYGROUND is so effective because it not only tells the poignant story of an individual sex trafficking victim, but the film also masterfully illustrates both the wide-spread reach of this crime and the urgent need for action. In doing so, PLAYGROUND has provided critical momentum to the effort to pass my federal legislation to help victims escape sex trafficking and to prosecute those who brutally exploit these young victims.

Senator Ron Wyden
Democrat - Oregon

The simple act of viewing this film sowed some very important seeds within me – that the abuse I endured was not my fault, that I was not alone in my experiences, and that my feelings of hopelessness and doom were unrealistic. 'PLAYGROUND' resonated deep within me and showed me that there was hope – that I could turn my life around.

Playground demonstrates the reach of the problem without being judgmental or forceful. It is more than a documentary, it is a powerful tool in showing that the buying and selling of our children can and does happen all across the country. The film has helped galvanize support for shelter funds, helped pass state legislation here in Oregon and has created greater awareness in the community. It has spurred conversations amongst leaders and led to a commitment to continue efforts at the federal, state and local level to help the young victims of sexual exploitation.

Commissioner Diane McKeel

Americans tend to think of forced prostitution as the plight of women from other countries locked up in brothels. That is indeed a problem. But equally scandalous is the violence involving America’s teenage girls. This documentary forces us to confront this reality and raises another challenge[...]: the need to treat sexually exploited children as victims and survivors, not as criminals.

Senator H.Richard
Durbin, Illinois
