how to prepare for this lesson

Throughout the You Belong Here lessons, students will be working on the building blocks to create a Kindness Bridge. In this lesson, students will receive their My Kindness Bridge Handouts. This handout will be the base for students to add their additional building blocks to. Students will be given handouts of these building blocks in almost each lesson and during Lesson 6, students will cut out their bridges and assemble them all together to create one long Classroom Kindness Bridge. This could be on a designated board or wall in the classroom. Students need to keep track of their handouts throughout the lessons until Lesson 6 when the bridge will be assembled. If necessary, the teacher should collect the handouts after each lesson until Lesson 6.

On Slides 10 and 11, students will collaborate to create a list about receiving and showing kindness, which will be recorded on chart paper. The teacher should save this chart paper list for reference later in Lesson 3.

Students will use their Feelings Wheel Handouts throughout the unit. Either collect them at the end of the lesson or have students keep their handouts somewhere safe for future use.
