This lesson explores empathy, sympathy, and advocacy through personal reflection and analysis of Clint Smith's "The Danger of Silence" TED talk. Students distinguish between empathy and sympathy while examining how silence and inaction can perpetuate harm. Through journal writing, discussion, and creative activities, students develop skills to become more active and empathetic community members.
