Lesson Overview

Students will explore the role of bystanders and situations they've witnessed. They'll discuss the bystander effect and reflect on why bystanders might choose not to intervene. They'll learn about becoming an upstander, watching a video on three tips for transitioning from bystander to upstander. They'll reflect on online behavior and practice applying the upstander tips in groups using the scenario handout.

Lesson Objectives

  • Discuss the bystander effect in bullying.
  • Understand how to transition from being a bystander to being an upstander.
  • Reflect on negative behaviors in online spaces
  • Discuss strategies for being an upstander online.
